More than 760 students named to President's List for Spring 2019
Nearly 770 Coastal Carolina University students were named to the President's List for the Spring 2019 semester. To be named to the President's List, students must achieve a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) for the semester. CCU has a student body of 10,600. More than 2,000 students were also named to the Dean's List for the spring semester, which means more than 21 percent of the student body earned recognition on either the Dean's List or the President's List. Of those on the President's List, 141 are freshmen, 177 are sophomores, 166 are juniors and 285 are seniors.

The Citadel commissions the Army's newest officers
ROTC programs produce almost 70% of the officers that enter the Army each year, and more than 100 of them will come from The Citadel in 2019. Most of the 104 members of the Class of 2019 who accepted Army commissions participated in the commissioning ceremony held on Friday, May 3 in McAlister Field House. A small number will accept their commissions later in the year after completing summer training. Every year, the commencement ceremony for the South Carolina Corps of Cadets is held the day after the commissioning ceremonies. Approximately 35% of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets Class of 2019 are now officers in all branches of the United States Armed Forces.

More than 1,200 graduate as part of CCU's Class of 2019
Coastal Carolina University graduates are exactly what the world needs, according to commencement speaker and doctoral candidate Leigha Peterson. Peterson addressed the graduating class of 2019 - more than 1,200 students - during three separate commencement ceremonies at the HTC Student Recreation and Convocation Center May 10-11. "Whatever you are, put it out there," she said, "because it is better than good enough. It is exactly what the world needs!"

CCU Honors Class of 2019 is the largest yet
The Coastal Carolina University Honors Class of 2019 is the largest in history, with 83 graduates earning a total of 89 degrees. Each student has completed a rigorous curriculum consisting of at least 24 credit hours of honors courses while maintaining at least a cumulative GPA of 3.5. The average GPA of this spring's graduating class is 3.72. Each honors student also completes a final honors thesis or project which is presented in a public forum.

CCU students perform in percussion ensemble
Nineteen Coastal Carolina University students performed in a spring concert as members CalypSamba, CCU's premier world percussion ensemble, in April. The concert was under the direction of Jesse Willis, CCU associate professor of music. The concert was held in CCU's Wheelwright Auditorium on campus and integrated unique collaborations of students, music faculty and alumni. The performance also featured steelpan player Liam Teague from the University of Northern Illinois. The ensemble played six different percussion songs, including "Sunday Morning Funk," "Pearls" and "Steel Band Times."

South Carolina Corps of Cadets commencement 2019
More than 500 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets accepted diplomas during The Citadel's commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 4 in McAlister Field House. About 35% of the class accepted commmissions as U.S. military officers in all branches of service just prior to graduation. Graduates accepted their diploma from Citadel alumnus Gen. Glenn W. Walters, USMC (Ret.), who was officiating as president for the first time. The top academic programs for the Class of 2019 included business administration, criminal justice, mechanical engineering, civil engineering and political science.

CCU students perform in wind ensemble
Twenty-eight Coastal Carolina University students performed in the music department's wind ensemble concert on Friday, April 26, in Wheelwright Auditorium. The performance featured an "American sounds, American voices" theme through seven different songs. The ensemble was under the direction of Garrett Griffin, associate professor of music and director of bands.

CCU Wind Ensemble performs classic river songs
Forty Coastal Carolina University students will perform in the Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Garrett Griffin, assistant professor and director of bands for the Department of Music. The performance is on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The concert includes six pieces, including traditional American river songs like "Shenandoah" and "Down the River."

Newly established Honors College at CCU has more than 700 students
The HTC Honors College and Center for Interdisciplinary Studies was established at Coastal Carolina University on Oct. 12, and the 700 students who had been accepted into the University's honors program are now the first students housed in the new college. The HTC Honors College and Center for Interdisciplinary Studies will feature many new initiatives and a revised curriculum. It will support students who have ties to majors and departments across campus: from honors students to interdisciplinary studies students, who build their own, innovative academic majors. In addition, the college will continue to support and advise undeclared first-year students as they select and transition into their major.

This year, 48 students were inducted into Coastal Carolina University's chapter of Phi Sigma Pi, a social service fraternity. Phi Sigma Pi is a gender-inclusive fraternity that focuses on scholarship, leadership and fellowship. The organization was founded in 1916 and has more than 125 chapters in the United States.

More than 45 CCU students inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma
More than 45 Coastal Carolina University students were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society, on April 4, 2018. Beta Gamma Sigma encourages and honors academic achievement in the study of business, and cultivates and celebrates leadership and professional excellence. In order for a business program to have a BGS chapter, it must be accredited by AACSB International, and undergraduates must be within the top 10 percent of their business program in order to be inducted into the society.
